The PTE (Pearson Test of English) is another widely accepted English language proficiency test, particularly used for academic purposes and immigration. Below are the key requirements and details you need to know if you’re planning to take the PTE exam.
PTE General was originally introduced by the University of London Schools Examination Board in 1982. The Examination Board converged with the Business and Technological Council (BTEC) in 1996 to become Edexcel, the largest examining authority of academic and vocational subjects in the UK.
You can choose to take your PTE Academic or General Training test on paper or computer at an official test centre. You may also be able to take PTE Online, depending on where you live.

Requirements
- Documents Needed: A valid passport or national ID card, depending on the country you’re registering in.
- Test Fee: The cost of PTE varies depending on the country but generally ranges from USD $150 to $250.
- Test Locations: You can check available test centers and dates on the official PTE website or through authorized test centers.
- Booking: You need to register and book your test in advance, with a recommended booking time of at least 1–2 weeks before your desired test date.
Test Duration & Fee
Listening, Reading and Writing are completed on in one sitting. The Speaking test may be taken on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.
- – Listening – 30 Minutes
- – Reading – 60 Minutes
- – Writing – 60 Minutes
- – Speaking – Less than 15 Minutes
- – Total Test Duration: 2 hours and 45 minutes.
- – Test Fee: NPR 30,000 with effect from 1 Jan 2024. (This rate is subject to change without notice.)
- – An IELTS result or Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two years.
